Planned Parenthood hides facts about abortions and tax dollars

By Rita Diller - The Washington Times, Friday, July 30, 2010

Where’s the money? That’s the question on everyone’s mind after reading the recently released Government Accountability Office (GAO) report. The GAO numbers on money paid out to Planned Parenthood between 2002 and 2008 reveal an unaccounted-for $1.3 billion.

No answers have been forthcoming. In typical Planned Parenthood style, the abortion giant has done nothing to shed light on the question. In fact, it has done just the opposite.

After weeks of investigation by American Life League’s Stop Planned Parenthood project, it appears the reason the GAO was not able to account for the expenditure of the great majority of the government money received is that Planned Parenthood will not produce its internal audits for the GAO to analyze.

Because of this, the GAO had to rely on reports filed by Planned Parenthood affiliates under the Single Audit Act, and those reports grossly underreport the amount of government money expended by Planned Parenthood.

The American taxpayers are left with more questions now than before:

Time to Reconsider a Sunset Commission

By Lou Zickar, Special to Roll Call, July 6, 2010

“Price is what you pay. Value is what you get.” — Warren Buffett

“The American people are slow to wrath, but when their wrath is once kindled, it burns like a consuming flame.” — Theodore Roosevelt

One of the first things they teach you in business school is the concept of the value proposition. Simply stated, value proposition is the benefit a consumer receives from purchasing a good or service. Value proposition has always been a key component of any business. But in tough economic times, the concept has become even more important.

With budgets tight, people are justifying their every purchase. Companies that have weathered the recession have recognized this and have adjusted their strategy accordingly. The Target Corp. is a good example. Ten years ago, ads for the chain of stores were famous for featuring the company logo and little else. Once the economy began to slow, Target changed its approach. The logo was still there. But it was now accompanied by four words that not only resonated with people who were being squeezed financially, but conveyed the company’s value proposition as well: “Expect More, Pay Less.”

With the country emerging from the recession, people’s pocketbooks are loosening and their shopping habits are beginning to change. But one thing hasn’t changed. People remain unsettled — around 60 percent say America is headed in the wrong direction. People are also angry. Much of this anger is directed at Washington. There are many theories as to why that is. Those on the right believe it’s because the government is spending too much. Those on the left believe it’s because the government is doing too little.

But perhaps there is another dynamic at work. It is a dynamic that has less to do with the size and scope of government than with its value proposition. Call it the reverse Target effect. Instead of expecting more and paying less, Americans feel just the opposite is true when it comes to the tax dollars they send to Washington and the return they get from the federal government.

FoodShare fraud — Loopholes in federal assistance program leave it open to abuse

by STEPHANIE JONES, journaltimes.com, 6/12/2010

RACINE - Lost your FoodShare card? No problem, here’s another.

Sold it for gas money or to buy alcohol? Sure thing, here’s another FoodShare card.

And another. And another.

It’s a waterfall of FoodShare cards, and Racine County Human Services Fraud Supervisor Susan Keown and other local officials are in search of a lifeboat.

“FoodShare cards are being sold, and anyone can use the card as long as they have a pin number,” Keown said. Local law enforcement officers are investigating this fraudulent behavior, but it’s behavior that would have been harder to pull off in the first place if the law were different.

Under the rules for the federally funded FoodShare program, formerly known as food stamps, people don’t have to show identification to use their food cards, which are a type of debit card, Keown said. And if they “lose” their card, they can easily get replacement cards over the phone as many times as they want, Keown said.

There are factors that contribute to fraudulent behavior that hurts taxpayers and keeps children and families who need the food from getting it, said Jonathan Delagrave, the newly appointed Racine County human services director.

Taxpayers pay $101,000 for Pelosi’s in-flight ‘food, booze’

By Bob Unruh, WorldNetDaily, January 29, 2010

Speaker’s trips ‘are more about partying than anything else’

It reads like a dream order for a wild frat party: Maker’s Mark whiskey, Courvoisier cognac, Johnny Walker Red scotch, Grey Goose vodka, E&J brandy, Bailey’s Irish Crème, Bacardi Light rum, Jim Beam whiskey, Beefeater gin, Dewars scotch, Bombay Sapphire gin, Jack Daniels whiskey … and Corona beer.

But that single receipt makes up just part of the more than $101,000 taxpayers paid for “in-flight
services” – including food and liquor, for House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s trips on Air Force jets over the last two years. That’s almost $1,000 per week.

Documents obtained under the Freedom of Information Act by Judicial Watch, which investigates and prosecutes government corruption, show Pelosi incurred expenses of some $2.1 million for her use of Air Force jets for travel over that time.

“Speaker Pelosi has a historyof wasting taxpayer funds with her boorish demands for military travel,” Judicial Watch President Tom Fitton said today. “And these documents suggest the Speaker’s congressional delegations are more about partying than anything else.”

Improper US Government Payments Hit $98 Billion

By: Reuters, Wednesday, 18 Nov 2009

Improper payments by the U.S. government to people, firms and contractors rose sharply to $98 billion in fiscal 2009 and President Barack Obama plans new rules to clamp down, the White House said Tuesday.

Over half the mistakes were made in the Medicare and Medicaid programs, and although some of the deterioration reflected stricter measurement, it also showed the need for healthcare reform, Office of Management and Budget Director Peter Orszag told reporters.

Improper payments in the Medicare and Medicaid programs totaled $55 billion in fiscal 2009, according to documents provided by OMB.

U.S. Will Pay $2.6 Million to Train Chinese Prostitutes to Drink Responsibly on the Job

by Edwin Mora, Tuesday, May 12, 2009

(CNSNews.com) — The National Institute of Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism (NIAA), a part of the National Institutes of Health (NIH), will pay $2.6 million in U.S. tax dollars to train Chinese prostitutes to drink responsibly on the job. Dr. Xiaoming Li, the researcher conducting the program, is director of the Prevention Research Center at Wayne State University School of Medicine in Detroit. The grant, made last November, refers to prostitutes as “female sex workers”–or FSW–and their handlers as “gatekeepers.” . . . Li said his study is being done in China rather than the U.S. because prostitution occurs with alcohol use in the United States like it does in China, Americans will be able to benefit from the project’s findings.
