Paul Ryan Delivers Weekly Republican Address - 6/26/2010

Rep. Paul Ryan, June 26, 2010,  youtube.com, 3:20

“Talk about a recipe for disaster: Democrats are offering no budget, no priorities, and no restraints — yet all their taxing, borrowing, and spending continues unchecked.”

“It is our shared responsibility to take on the challenges before us to make sure that our kids and our grandkids have a better life. Let’s begin this important work today. Let’s make the tough, forward-looking choices that will restore the promise and prosperity of this exceptional nation - and let’s do it together.”

Rep. Paul Ryan (R-WI) says Washington Democrats’ unprecedented decision to cancel this year’s budget will wreak havoc on our economy and make it even harder to put people back to work. The House Budget Committee’s top Republican, Ryan says Democrats’ plan to continue their out-of-control ’stimulus’ spending spree and raise taxes on middle-class families is a “recipe for disaster.”

Joe Biden Calls a Custard Shop Manager a ‘Smart Ass’ (Video)

by Mark Whittington, associatedcontent.com, June 26, 2010

Vice President Joe Biden was at a custard shop in Milwaukee for a little photo op plus a cone of the shop’s signature custard dessert. Biden also got a little advice.

When asked how much he owed for the custard, the manager replied that it was one the house, but he would be willing to call it even if Biden were to lower his taxes. Biden, not amused, replied that the manager was a “smart ass.” Maybe there is an IRS audit in that shop’s future instead.

Terrorists Rejoice: YouTube Pulls Pro-Israeli Video

Posted by Warner Todd Huston, bigjournalism.com, Jun 13th 2010

In the week following the Israeli boarding of boats piloted by Turkish “peace activists” off the coast of Gaza, Caroline Click and the good folks at the Hebrew-language Israeli news site Latma created a parody video skewering the violent actions perpetrated by those “peace activists” against members of the Israeli authorities attempting to enforce the Gaza blockade. The video went up on YouTube and garnered three million views within a matter of days.

Created as a parody of the 1980s activist song “We are the World,” the Latma song was named “We Con the World” and humorously depicted an array of Palestinian supporters singing about how they’d fooled the world into thinking that it was the Israelis that were the bad guys in the Gaza blockade incident.

The video was very clever and hit just the right notes of humor being not too mean-spirited yet easily hitting home with its message. The humor of the video was wholly in keeping with western humor and not over-the-top or unduly offensive at all. Naturally, YouTube pulled it anyway.

–SNIP–

The video can still be seen in a post by Ed Morrissey of HotAir.com. Morrissey found the video on YouTube and downloaded it before the Google folks deleted it.

Also a quick check of the media watchdog website Newsbusters.org reveals that YouTube has been pulling pro-conservative videos for a long time now. A search on Newsbusters of the phrase youtube pulls video gives results going back years.

Shouldn’t YouTube be supporting free and open debate?

The beginning of a U.S. currency crisis and hyperinflation

With a national debt now over $13 trillion, $6.3 trillion in Fannie/Freddie debt and $60 trillion in unfunded obligations for programs such as Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid, the U.S. government has total obligations of over $79.1 trillion or 5.5 times our GDP of $14.2 trillion. It is our belief that the United States for all intents and purposes is bankrupt and Americans need to take steps immediately to protect themselves from the potential loss of the purchasing power of their U.S. Dollars.

Sure he said Wall Street, but he also said no tax increases for those earning under $250,000, and we see how long that lasted.

Rare Film of Ronald Reagan, James Dean Unearthed

(CBS) In the mid-20th Century, Ronald Reagan began his transformation from B-movie actor to champion of American conservatism, riding in part a backlash against the cultural rebellion taking place throughout the nation.

With that setting in mind, recently unearthed footage of Reagan paired with his cultural polar opposite, James Dean, the rebel without a cause, is stirring.

Found by Wayne Federman, a writer for NBC’s Late Night with Jimmy Fallon, and published on the The Atlantic website, the production, titled “The Dark, Dark Hours,” aired Dec. 12, 1954, during an episode of CBS’ General Electric Theater.

Chicago Teacher on Tax Hike: ‘Give Up the Bucks’

by Publius, biggovernment.com, April 22, 2010

This is what the welfare state looks like. The formerly great state of Illinois, having thoroughly run its budget into the ground, is considering digging an even deeper hole by raising taxes. Exactly the shot in the arm the economy needs!

Of course, public sector unions are in full-throttle support of the tax grab. (No recession for those that live off taxpayers.) On Wednesday, a phalanx of public sector employees, including SEIU, Illinois Education Association, Illinois Federation of Teachers, AFSCME, and AFL-CIO, rallied in support of the tax hike in the capital, Springfield.

This public school teacher, who was likely given the day off to attend the rally, left no doubt about her reasons for supporting the tax hike.

Yes, this woman is responsible for educating some number of your children. Her chant goes to the heart of what’s wrong with our public school system…it is designed for the adults in the system, i.e. teachers and not the children.

The task at hand is even bigger than we feared.

TODAY’S TMJ4 video on Seandell Jackson’s outburst after being sentenced in the murder of a UWM student.

A man convicted of murdering University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee film student Nathan Potter was wrestled to the ground, pepper-sprayed and taken under guard from a courtroom Friday after he was sentenced to life in prison with no chance of parole.

Seandell Jackson spat a string of obscenities at Milwaukee County Circuit Judge Rebecca Dallet as three deputies and Milwaukee police Detective James Hutchinson dragged Jackson to the floor of her courtroom.

Moments before, Jackson’s attorney, Patrick Earle, had asked Dallet to weigh into her sentence the 19-year-old Jackson’s youth and, as Earle put it, his “lack of impulse control.”

As authorities struggled to subdue Jackson, members of his family stood in the back of the courtroom and taunted Potter’s family.

“I hate you!” a woman yelled toward the Potters. “I hate you all!”

Shocking video exposes biggest government fraud of the past 20 years

Daily Crux, Tuesday, April 13, 2010

By David Galland in Casey’s Daily Dispatch:

David Rosenberg of Gluskin Sheff can almost always be counted on for a useful observation or two, and his letter today is no exception. In it, he comments on the basis for the strong rise in U.S. corporate profits. It’s his observation, so I’ll let him make it…

THE PROFIT PICTURE - THE REAL STORY

Total U.S. corporate profits (national accounts basis) rose 30.6% YoY in Q4, a huge swing from the -25.1% trend a year ago.

Almost the entire story is in the financial sector where profits have soared 240%, which is unprecedented. With the banks shrinking their asset base, the surge in earnings has been due to the ability to ‘extend and pretend’ post the FASB 157 changes a year ago and the ability to play a super steep yield curve.

Financial sector profits have accounted for 85% of the overall increase in corporate earnings. Total nonfinancial earnings are up the grand total of 5.2% on a YoY basis, though this is still much better than the -17.9% pace a year ago.

As something of a set piece on that theme, check out this rare video on mainstream financial media - from MSNBC - that goes into an unaccustomed level of detail over the scam the Feds are running in cahoots with the financial institutions. (Video from MSNBC at the link)

The new federal MENU mandate meets the real world

by Ed Morrissey, hotair.com, April 1, 2010

Yesterday, I spent a little time at a local pizzeria to find out more about the impact of the new federal menu mandate in the real world. Davanni’s has 21 locations throughout the Twin Cities, a smaller, local chain that suddenly must now comply with this federal requirement to publish the caloric content of each of its menu items on all of its printed presentations. However, these restaurants have a problem when they offer their customers a wide range and high number of options - as most pizzerias do. Ken Schelper, a Vice President of Davanni’s, sat down with me yesterday to explain just how costly this new mandate is, and how difficult compliance will be:
