U.S. agency’s action may kill Bucyrus deal, cost 1,000 jobs
Export-Import Bank denies loan guarantees for coal project in India

Up to 1,000 jobs at Bucyrus International Inc. and its suppliers could be in jeopardy as the result of a decision by the U.S. Export-Import Bank, funded by Congress, to deny several hundred million dollars in loan guarantees to a coal-fired power plant and mine in India.
About 300 of those jobs are at the Bucyrus plant in South Milwaukee, where the company has 1,410 employees and its headquarters. The remaining jobs are spread across 13 states, including Illinois, Minnesota and Indiana.
On Thursday, the Export-Import Bank denied financing for Reliance Power Ltd., an Indian power plant company, effectively wiping out about $600 million in coal mining equipment sales for Bucyrus, chief executive Tim Sullivan said.
The fossil fuel project was the first to come before the government-run bank since it adopted a climate-change policy to settle a lawsuit and to meet Obama administration directives.

Climate Fears Turn to Doubts Among Britons

LONDON — Last month hundreds of environmental activists crammed into an auditorium here to ponder an anguished question: If the scientific consensus on climate change has not changed, why have so many people turned away from the idea that human activity is warming the planet?
Nowhere has this shift in public opinion been more striking than in Britain, where climate change was until this year such a popular priority that in 2008 Parliament enshrined targets for emissions cuts as national law. But since then, the country has evolved into a home base for a thriving group of climate skeptics who have dominated news reports in recent months, apparently convincing many that the threat of warming is vastly exaggerated.
A survey in February by the BBC found that only 26 percent of Britons believed that “climate change is happening and is now established as largely manmade,” down from 41 percent in November 2009. A poll conducted for the German magazine Der Spiegel found that 42 percent of Germans feared global warming, down from 62 percent four years earlier.
And London’s Science Museum recently announced that a permanent exhibit scheduled to open later this year would be called the Climate Science Gallery — not the Climate Change Gallery as had previously been planned.
“Before, I thought, ‘Oh my God, this climate change problem is just dreadful,’ ” said Jillian Leddra, 50, a musician who was shopping in London on a recent lunch hour. “But now I have my doubts, and I’m wondering if it’s been overhyped.”

Barrett Flips

Milwaukee Mayor and aspiring governor Tom Barrett stuck to the script last week. Unfortunately that required another flip-flop.
Just weeks ago Barrett, who signed onto the Mayors Climate Protection Agreement, said if the original bill didn’t pass he’d re-engage the issue as governor in 2011.
Last week Barrett said he couldn’t support the legislation unless significant changes were made.
So what parts of a redrafted global warming bill would the mayor support?
* The 25% renewable energy mandate that will make electricity more expensive?
* The higher “public benefits” fees tacked onto utility bills?
*The low-carbon fuel standard that could add more than a half-dollar to the pump price of gasoline?
* The mandatory two-percent reduction of electricity usage?
Anybody who says Wisconsin will create jobs by making every form of energy use more expensive and dictating that we use less of it is either lying or has no idea what they’re talking about. Just to keep our current jobs from leaving they’d need to blow up the bridges across the Mississippi.
The words “global warming” and “climate change” have utterly disappeared from public statements supporting Governor Doyle’s global warming bill. Now it’s all about reorganizing our economy to give people jobs producing more expensive and less reliable electricity then we have now.
No matter how it’s sold, there’s no excuse for passing any part of this economic suicide pact, now, next year, or ever.

–SNIP– At the TED 2010 conference in Long Beach, California, Bill Gates won a standing ovation by calling for the end of carbon-based fuels in forty years; literally, our CO2 emissions must drop to zero or we risk a warming world, lower crop yields, and starvation of the poor. It is absolutely stunning, as we read Gates’s excerpts, to accept that a formerly unrelenting strategic genius has transformed himself into a conveyor of hackneyed global warming alarmism.
According to Gates, “There is uncertainty about how bad the effects of increases in atmospheric CO2 are, but they will be bad. Until we get to near zero, the temperature will go up.”

It has been tough to keep up with all the bad news for global warming alarmists. We’re on the edge of our chair, waiting for the next shoe to drop. This has been an Imelda Marcos kind of season for shoe-dropping about global warming.
At your next dinner party, here are some of the latest talking points to bring up when someone reminds you that Al Gore and the U.N. Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change won Nobel prizes for their work on global warming.
ClimateGate – This scandal began the latest round of revelations when thousands of leaked documents from Britain’s East Anglia Climate Research Unit showed systematic suppression and discrediting of climate skeptics’ views and discarding of temperature data, suggesting a bias for making the case for warming. Why do such a thing if, as global warming defenders contend, the “science is settled?”
FOIGate – The British government has since determined someone at East Anglia committed a crime by refusing to release global warming documents sought in 95 Freedom of Information Act requests. The CRU is one of three international agencies compiling global temperature data. If their stuff’s so solid, why the secrecy?
ChinaGate – An investigation by the U.K.’s left-leaning Guardian newspaper found evidence that Chinese weather station measurements not only were seriously flawed, but couldn’t be located. “Where exactly are 42 weather monitoring stations in remote parts of rural China?” the paper asked. The paper’s investigation also couldn’t find corroboration of what Chinese scientists turned over to American scientists, leaving unanswered, “how much of the warming seen in recent decades is due to the local effects of spreading cities, rather than global warming?” The Guardian contends that researchers covered up the missing data for years.

Data: Professor Phil Jones admitted his record keeping is ‘not as good as it should be’
The academic at the centre of the ‘Climategate’ affair, whose raw data is crucial to the theory of climate change, has admitted that he has trouble ‘keeping track’ of the information.
Colleagues say that the reason Professor Phil Jones has refused Freedom of Information requests is that he may have actually lost the relevant papers.
Professor Jones told the BBC yesterday there was truth in the observations of colleagues that he lacked organisational skills, that his office was swamped with piles of paper and that his record keeping is ‘not as good as it should be’.
The data is crucial to the famous ‘hockey stick graph’ used by climate change advocates to support the theory.
Professor Jones also conceded the possibility that the world was warmer in medieval times than now – suggesting global warming may not be a man-made phenomenon.

The fact that the MSM isn’t trumpeting the news about the falsification of data from the British Climate Research Unit (CRU) at the University of East Anglia regarding Anthropogenic Global Warming (AGW) is just amazing. (Anthropogenic: man-made) And they wonder why trust is declining. Look in the mirror!
Oh yeah, its “settled” science! Does “settled” in this instance mean fixed?
WHERE IS AL GORE? Strangely silent lately, no?
Actually we shouldn’t be so hard on Mr. Gore. After all, he was willfully misled by scientists. Scientists who, supposedly, are looking for the facts.
Democrats’ Climate Bill a Disaster for the Economy

A bill loosely-based on recommendations from the Governor’s Global Warming Task Force was recently introduced in the legislature. The funny part of this story is that a press conference announcing this bill to fight “global warming” was canceled…due to cold weather and a blizzard. The not so funny part is that this legislation would kill 43,000 jobs in Wisconsin and cost every person an extra $1,000 per year.
Democrats are pushing a sweeping, 174 page bill that would put strict energy and emissions restrictions on everything from cars to clocks. Among other things, the bill would adopt restrictive California vehicle emissions standards, which would make the purchase of new cars more expensive. Electric bills for manufacturers and households alike would skyrocket under the mandate that fully 25% of Wisconsin’s energy come from renewable sources in only 15 years. (In case you are wondering, about 5% of Wisconsin’s energy portfolio comes from renewable sources right now.) A new “low carbon fuel standard” would essentially turn off the spigot of gas imported from Canada, which currently supplies more than 50% of Wisconsin’s motor fuel.

Gov. Doyle’s Global Warming Bill Will Destroy Jobs

Governor Doyle officially introduced his global warming bill, Assembly Bill 649, at a press conference in Madison last Thursday. Ironically, another press conference scheduled in Milwaukee was cancelled due to weather. Supporters hope to have the Governor sign the bill into law on Earth Day, April 22nd.
AB 649 is being marketed by its authors as the “The Clean Energy Jobs Act.” Perhaps this is one of the most misnamed bills in the history of misnaming bills. Make no mistake, the evolution of this bill shows its origins rest in the recommendations of the Governor’s Global Warming Task Force. Its only effect on the job market will be a net loss of jobs, and consumers can expect to be hit with higher energy prices and a higher cost of living.

Glaciers melting? It was propaganda, says the propagandist

The story so far: The United Nations’ chief global warming agitators, the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, issued a report a couple years back. It said, among other things, that the glaciers atop the Himalayas would be gone by 2035.
Now, it turns out there’s no science to back that up. The glaciers won’t be gone by 2035; the claim was bogus and was based on nothing more than a talking point in an old environmentalist brochure. Experts on the Himalayan glaciers said the claim is baseless.
Now, new twist: The guy who put the claim in the report, according to the Daily Mail, “admitted it was included purely to put political pressure on world leaders.”

This year’s version features Gore blowing smoke — but only when a truck exhaust is connected. Businessmen Craig Compeau and Rudy Gavora say they’ll commission the sculpture annually until Gore comes to Fairbanks to debate climate change. “Before we start carbon taxing … let’s try and educate ourselves,” Compeau said. The Frozen Gore Web site also has pictures of last year’s creation.

Climategate: This time Al Gore lied

Al Gore’s claim last week that the Climategate emails were insignificant relied on two main defences. Both are so flagrantly wrong that it’s not enough to say Gore is simply mistaken.
No, Al Gore is a liar.
Last week we showed that the first of his Climategate defences was so preposterously wrong that it was doubtful he had even read the leaked emails he tried to dismiss. You see, five times in two interviews he dismissed the emails as dated documents that were at least 10 years old:
I haven’t read all the e-mails, but the most recent one is more than 10 years old.
In fact, most of the controversial emails, as I showed, were from just the past two years - and the most recent from just last month - November 12, to be precise.
So Gore was so wrong on the first count that it was difficult to think of any way an honest man could have made such a mistake. Five times.
But now Steve McIntyre has exploded the second argument Gore made. And now all doubt in my mind is gone. Gore must have simply lied.

1) There is “no real scientific proof” that the current warming is caused by the rise of greenhouse gases from man’s activity.
2) Man-made carbon dioxide emissions throughout human history constitute less than 0.00022 percent of the total naturally emitted from the mantle of the earth during geological history.
3) Warmer periods of the Earth’s history came around 800 years before rises in CO2 levels.
4) After World War II, there was a huge surge in recorded CO2 emissions but global temperatures fell for four decades after 1940.

We understand that the Governor’s Global Warming Task Force (Task Force) will reconvene on
December 15, 2009, to discuss draft legislation intended to implement the recommendations of the Task
Force. These recommendations are set forth in the July 2008 Final Report to Governor Doyle (Final
Report).
(SNIP) You may have seen the recent report by the Wisconsin Policy Research Institute (WPRI) titled The Economics of Climate Change Proposals in Wisconsin.1 This analysis, done by trained economists from Suffolk University, is noteworthy in that it is the first comprehensive attempt to assess costs associated with some of the Task Force recommendations. Some highlights include:
• The policies (excluding cap and trade) would cause the state to shed 43,093 private-sector jobs. Annual wages would drop $1.6 billion, with disposable income falling by $1,012 per capita.
• The paper manufacturing industry would shed an additional 3,496 jobs and investment would drop by $1.8 million in 2020 if the 12 Task Force policies, excluding cap-and-trade, were implemented.
• The total net costs of the 25 percent renewable mandate would exceed $16 billion through 2025.
• Mandating California emission standards would increase the cost of each new car sold in Wisconsin by $968, for an annual economic hit of $353 million to Wisconsin consumers.
• The proposed Low Carbon Fuel Standard would increase costs to Wisconsin motorists by an additional $3.279 billion by 2020.

Sensenbrenner to Tell Copenhagen: No Climate Laws Until ‘Scientific Fascism’ Ends

Republican lawmaker says he’s going to U.N. climate conference to inform world leaders that despite any promises made by President Obama, no new laws will be passed in the U.S. until “scientific fascism” ends.
The ranking Republican on the House Select Committee for Energy Independence and Global Warming said Tuesday he is going to attend the Copenhagen conference on climate change to inform world leaders that despite any promises made by President Obama, no new laws will be passed in the United States until the “scientific fascism” ends.
Rep. James Sensenbrenner, R-Wis., also wrote to Dr. Rajendra Pachauri, head of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, on Monday to demand that researchers who authored e-mails and documents that demonstrate climate change data were manipulated should not be allowed to participate in the latest report written by the U.N. panel.
“I call it ’scientific fascism,’” Sensenbrenner said during a press conference with fellow climate change skeptics. “The U.N. should throw a red flag. …. They relied on these scientists unjustifiably in my opinion.”
Sensenbrenner wrote that “these bad actors” limited peer-reviewed studies used by the IPCC, which is leading the Copenhagen conference on climate change.
“Their behavior has caused grave damage to the public trust in climate science in general, and to the IPCC, in particular,” Sensenbrenner wrote. “They should not be allowed to do so in the future. I therefore request that you and the co-chairs of each of the three IPCC working groups ensure that none of the individuals involved in these nefarious e-mail exchanges participate as contributors, reviewers, or in any other capacity in the preparation of” the next IPCC report.

THE scientific consensus that mankind has caused climate change was rocked yesterday as a leading academic called it a “load of hot air underpinned by fraud”.
Professor Ian Plimer condemned the climate change lobby as “climate comrades” keeping the “gravy train” going.
In a controversial talk just days before the start of a climate summit attended by world leaders in Copenhagen, Prof Plimer said Governments were treating the public like “fools” and using climate change to increase taxes.
He said carbon dioxide has had no impact on temperature and that recent warming was part of the natural cycle of climate stretching over billions of years.
“If you have to argue your science by using fraud, your science is not valid.” said Professor Pilmer
Prof Plimer - author of Heaven and Earth: Global Warming, The Missing Science - told a London audience: “Climates always change. They always have and they always will. They are driven by a number of factors that are random and cyclical.”

Climate change data DUMPED

SCIENTISTS at the University of East Anglia (UEA) have admitted throwing away much of the raw temperature data on which their predictions of global warming are based.
It means that other academics are not able to check basic calculations said to show a long-term rise in temperature over the past 150 years.
The UEA’s Climatic Research Unit (CRU) was forced to reveal the loss following requests for the data under Freedom of Information legislation.
The data were gathered from weather stations around the world and then adjusted to take account of variables in the way they were collected. The revised figures were kept, but the originals — stored on paper and magnetic tape — were dumped to save space when the CRU moved to a new building.
The admission follows the leaking of a thousand private emails sent and received by Professor Phil Jones, the CRU’s director. In them he discusses thwarting climate sceptics seeking access to such data.

Congress May Probe Leaked Global Warming E-Mails

A few days after leaked e-mail messages appeared on the Internet, the U.S. Congress may probe whether prominent scientists who are advocates of global warming theories misrepresented the truth about climate change.
Sen. James Inhofe, an Oklahoma Republican, said on Monday the leaked correspondence suggested researchers “cooked the science to make this thing look as if the science was settled, when all the time of course we knew it was not,” according to a transcript of a radio interview posted on his Web site. Aides for Rep. Darrell Issa, a California Republican, are also looking into the disclosure.
The leaked documents (see our previous coverage) come from the Climatic Research Unit of the University of East Anglia in eastern England. In global warming circles, the CRU wields outsize influence: it claims the world’s largest temperature data set, and its work and mathematical models were incorporated into the United Nations Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change’s 2007 report. That report, in turn, is what the Environmental Protection Agency acknowledged it “relies on most heavily” when concluding that carbon dioxide emissions endanger public health and should be regulated.
Last week’s leaked e-mails range from innocuous to embarrassing and, critics believe, scandalous. They show that some of the field’s most prominent scientists were so wedded to theories of man-made global warming that they ridiculed dissenters who asked for copies of their data (”have to respond to more crap criticisms from the idiots”), cheered the deaths of skeptical journalists, and plotted how to keep researchers who reached different conclusions from publishing in peer-reviewed journals.
