Governor Tommy Thompson to Stump for Brett Davis on Monday
Davis will transform “previously meaningless” lieutenant governor’s office into “top taxpayer watchdog with the mission of exposing and eliminating wasteful spending.”
Madison — Governor Tommy Thompson will lend his help to State Representative Brett Davis’s campaign for lieutenant governor as the two will make campaign stops around Wisconsin on Monday, September 13th – the day before primary election. Davis has based his campaign around his plan to transform the lieutenant governor position into the leading taxpayer watchdog with the mission of exposing and eliminating wasteful spending in state government.
Much like Governor Thompson reformed welfare-to-work and created the school choice programs that have served as national models, Davis has a plan to finally give taxpayers a return on the investment they make in the office of lieutenant governor. He has pledged that each year he serves as lieutenant governor he will propose to eliminate an amount equal to at least 100 times the lieutenant governor’s office budget in wasteful government spending, which would result in nearly $40 million in spending cuts each year.
“I’ve laid out a clear plan for what I want to do as lieutenant governor – an office that has largely been meaningless for as long as anyone can remember,” said Davis. “I want to transform the office of lieutenant governor into a leading taxpayer watchdog with the chief mission of exposing and eliminating wasteful spending in state government. I am honored to have Governor Thompson’s support and am looking forward to making this final push around the state with him.”
Davis was elected to his south central Wisconsin Assembly District as one of the youngest members of the Legislature in 2004. Despite liberal special interest groups spending over a million dollars attacking him, he managed to win reelection twice in a district where President Barack Obama took 64% of the vote. Davis’s common-sense philosophy and hard work on behalf of his constituents won support from Republicans and Independents—a trait that will certainly help the GOP take back the governor’s office in 2010.
Because of his votes cast while in the Assembly, Davis has earned an A rating with the NRA, has a 100% voting record with the National Federation of Independent Businesses, and has been endorsed by Wisconsin Right to Life in every election, including this race for lieutenant governor. He has also been endorsed by Governor Tommy Thompson and Congressman Mark Green, 24 sitting state legislators, the majority of Waukesha County GOP executive board members (as individuals), Milwaukee County Republican Party, Governor Scott McCallum, and former State Representative and 2006 candidate for lt. governor Jean Hundertmark.
